Casey Donahew to bring new music to the Oklahoma State Fair
From The Red Dirt Report
The atmosphere of a rodeo is a familiar territory for this Burleson, Texas native.
"I've team roped since high school and I still try to rodeo a little bit," said Donahew. "Me and my bass player both still team rope when we get some free time."
Donahew and the band have had a busy summer with their national tour and performances in new cities across the U.S.
"It seems like everywhere we go people are having a good time," Donahew said.
In addition to touring, Donahew is currently working a new record with renowned songwriter and famed producer, Josh Leo.
"It seems like there's a little bit of everything [on the new album]," Donahew said, "but there's several rodeo songs. Turned out to be kind of a rodeo record."
The band released their latest record Standoff in 2013 which included hits like "Whiskey Baby" and "Loser."
"I'm excited to get some new music out, so it's fun to get in there and get the process rolling," he said.
With the rodeo life serving as one of the main themes in the new record, it's only fitting that the band plans to play two or three new songs at Friday's performance, he said.
"I like to get a gauge for if I'm on the right track or not and if things I really think are awesome translate," he said.
The Casey Donahew Band has found a sweet spot in the scene through their live performances, and the band continues to make their shows memorable for fans.
"We just try to put on a high energy show, and I think people can tell that we're having a good time."
"We're looking forward to coming to Oklahoma," Donahew said. "It's one of our favorite spots, and we're excited about the rodeo."
